Waiting for Bios and Programs

Posted on July 18, 2009 at 10:49 AM Comments comments (0)

Everyone--

I'm still waiting for program contest entries for the cover of the program. PLEASE get them in to me soon, or else they might not be accepted or considered for the cover.

I am also waiting for bios from Eric, Glenn, Darcy, Delena, and Collette. Try to fit them into 50 words or less (except Eric, you have 100 words).

Della--Could you please return the extra music script we gave you, we are short on scripts and really need it back for the stage crew.

If anyone has a dress that matches with a doll-sized dress, please tell me (I have already heard from Kirsten and Kyra) because we might need to use it for the song in Act 1 Scene 3.

Lines should be memorized by Monday, 20th, when we start runthroughs. It would be a very good idea to memorize them before hand so that it is easier to remember blocking and choreography.

Reminder

Posted on July 9, 2009 at 7:28 AM Comments comments (0)

Just some reminders:

Wednesday, July 8th--1:00 pm to 3:30 pm

Wednesday, July 15th--1:00 pm to 3:30 pm

Listen to the rehearsals CD so as to learn your songs.

Snacks are ALWAYS welcome because my mom is going broke buying them for all of us! If you are going to be treats, bring enough for 18 (nothing to sweet or messy).

Turn in your bios and program ideas entries to me (Helen) or send them to my email (hedgieheart94@hotmail.com).

Performance Space

For those of you who were in Unintentionally Hilarious Take 2, you will be happy to know that we booked that same church to perform A Little Princess. It's a great space with built in lights and sound. There is no stage, but there are some platforms we can use. It's the perfect space!

WE ARE FAMOUS!!!

Well, not really famous, but we did get a super cool mention on the playwright's blog. Check it out on http://frumicohenmusicals.blogspot.com/ . Scroll down a little until you see the DIY logo!

Program Contest and Bios

Posted on June 29, 2009 at 5:00 PM Comments comments (3)

Hi everyone!

Today's rehearsal went great, and you really learned those dances well.

Over the holidays, if you would like to, you may enter the program contest. All you need to do is draw (by hand or using the computer) a cover for the program. All you really need is the title of the play: A Little Princess. Other things you can add to it are:

  •  Your director's names (Helen Knudsen, Eric Helm, and Della Wiener)
  • The dates of the performance (August 7th and 8th, 2009)
  • The author of the play (Frumi Cohen)
  • The author of the book (Frances Hodgson Burnett)
  • Anything else you think of

If you don't add any of these things, that is perfectly okay.

Also, we are asking everyone in the cast to create a 50 words or less bio of them selves in the 3rd person. These will be in the program for the show. Either physically hand a print out or handwritten copy of it to me or email it to me at hedgieheart94@hotmail.com.

Please have your bio (and program design if you are entering) in to us by July 8th.

Thank you for a great start off for the dancing!

Accompaniament!

Posted on June 28, 2009 at 12:34 PM Comments comments (0)

I have great news!

We have found a flutist named Emma F. who has volunteered to play her flute for all the Ram Dass scenes. Ram Dass will have her own special melody for whenever she comes on. Also, Emma will be playing a song on her flute for the doll dancing scene (1-3 Summon the Stories). It will add much more depth to the play!

We might have a lead on a pianist, but if you have any very good piano players, do not hesitate to ask them if they would like to accompany us. Our goal is to have 3 to 4 pianists so that it is easier to learn the songs.

If you have any suggestions about music for the show, please ask me or comment on this page!

End of Week One!

GREAT JOB EVERYONE THIS WEEK!!!

I can't believe we've already learned most of the full cast songs! You guys sound amazing when all singing together. The focus and energy was way up this morning. Keep it up!

Please review the songs when you have a chance. Sing them at home, in the shower, in the car, for your family, and for your pets! Try to get the words down, because some of the songs are faster than we practiced them. If you have a piano, pound out the notes and sing along. Sing along to your rehearsal CD too.

Its never too early to memorize your lines. The sooner you have them down, the better off you'll be. It's also a heck of a lot easier to remeber blocking and choreography for a scene if you already know your lines.

If you know anyone who plays intermediate to advanced piano, ask them if they would be willing to learn one, two, or even three pieces of accompaniament for the songs from the show. An older teen would be great.

Who We Are:

DIY Teen Theatre was founded by Helen Knudsen in the summer of 2009 when she was 14. She loves theatre and wanted the opportunity to direct a show by herself. While her home town of Elmhurst, Illinois has a wonderful childrens' theatre that runs through the school year, there was nothing for younger actors and actresses to do during the summer. She recruited two of her friends to help her direct a musical extravaganza! She put to work everything she had learned as a graduate of Elmhurst Children's Theatre.

Our shows are performed in the summer by children entering grades 4 through 9.  Middle school and highschool students make up the pit orchestra, tech crew, and assistant direction. The first show, A Little Princess, in Summer 2009, was a huge success, and the second and third, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (2010), and Alice in Wonderland (2011), was even more popular and drew in an enormous crowd! The cast performed to a packed house, and had a fantastic time. DIY is now planning their Summer 2012 show, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
